AEE is proud to present SLEEEP, the first LEED v4 Gold project in Hong Kong and the world’s first project to ever achieve LEED Gold using the LEED v4 ID+C: Hospitality rating system. AEE provided LEED consultant, and MEP and sustainability consultant services.
SLEEEP, a capsule hotel and nap lounge concept by spatial product developer Space is Ltd., is an innovative offering on the Hong Kong hospitality market. SLEEEP has had more than 1,000 guests visit since its opening and its pioneering efforts in green tourism reflect SLEEEP’s distinct mission to balance exceptional user experience and environmental sustainability, one quality sleep at a time.
SLEEEP is addressing one of the pressing issues for Hong Kong’s citizens: overworked, sleep-deprived and lacking in space, office workers need a space for a recharge. Building upon the architectural concept originated from Japan in the 1970s, SLEEEP is infusing it with new purpose, designs and technologies. SLEEEP provides flexible use options to its guests, online check-in and keyless entry simplifies the user experience and the circadian lighting based on scientific principles is designed to induce quality sleep.
SLEEEP achieved LEED Gold by implementing practical and measurable solutions aimed at achieving high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. These eco-friendly solutions are integrated throughout the SLEEEP hospitality experience, from paperless operations for check-in through to a unique heat recovery system which recycles all wasted energy from air-conditioning into heat to warm the guest showers. An emphasis on sleek minimalism throughout the property further reduces waste and clutter, stripping out the excess disposable amenities common to many hotels, encouraging guests using low carbon footprint high-quality products and promoting a sustainable culture on to its guests and staff. More on the project can be found at the USGBC Project Profile and the USGBC Weixin Group.
LEED is the world’s most widely used green building program and an international standard of excellence that gave SLEEEP the framework to consider our business’s environmental and social impact holistically. Despite the humble size 400 square feet of SLEEEP, this outstanding recognition makes us all the more eager to take SLEEEP into new uncharted territories while hoping to inspire others along the way.
